Madhubani Peacock – A digital art
On an April evening, I painted this digital madhubani peacock on my iPad.
I was being part of a collaboration on Instagram to post a peacock in Madhubani for the day and I was travelling. No papers, no pens. But I had my work iPad with me. A late-night art fulfullied the day’s commitment.
I was not knowing about the kachni or bharni work in Madhubani. I was not much aware of the significance of the double lines in Mithila art.
I had one commitment. To draw and post a Madhubani peacock.
I wanted to have blue and green as main colours. Lines, cicles and triangles as main patterns. A few references, a few lookups and this came up finally.
Looking back, if I were to draw this peacock this monsoon in Bangalore, I would take to papers, pens, paints and brushes. And more double lines and bright colours.
Peacocks love rains. They are not scared of storms. The eyes on their feathers watches over everything around them. I needed those 108 eyes that day to complete this digital art that night.
